Boltaction - enter the learning curve.

So not quite D-Day, but the opening game at the club arrived and this is how I'd managed to get the figures. From my RPG days I'd knew that if the flesh and weapons are defined on a primed figure it's enough to avoid the mono tone blob effect.

Assembling a Force

Finally found time to start constructing tonight. Officer and one squad done (without the gubbins yet) and the anger is bubbling up! The other five will have to wait until tomorrow! 😤

Feast Yer Eyes!

A bit of a side project here. I bought a couple of packs of Scottish Goblins done by "Goblins of the World". Hand sculpted in a basic but characterful\cartoony style it's fair to say that on the whole they're not going to mix side-by-side with most other ranges.

Bolt Action Startup

So a thread went out on the Falkirk Wargaming Club Facebook page to see if anyone wanted to try learning Bolt Action.

Shadowrun Miniatures Quick Comparison

Shadowrun, Shadowrun, Urban War, Stargrave, Shadowrun, Copplestone

Thoughts have been a bit more Sci-Fi than usual over the last few months with Stargrave, Five Parsecs from Home and Reality's Edge all sitting next to the comfy chair.

Being a fan of Ral Partha Europe's miniature line I'd been wondering about how the Shadowrun line scaled with other figures, especially as Reality's Edge was crying out for more Cyberpunk types. I had it in my head that they were more "true 25mm". I had asked on Facebook but Paul is obviously a busy man so never managed to have a look.

So I took advantage of a flash 20% sale and included the Shadowrun Assassins pack with my order to test the water.

And the result is more favourable than I'd expected truth be told. I'll be happy to mix anyway, you can judge for yourself.

Broken Realms of Hell Complete

The boards for "Reign in Hell" are complete (or as complete as they are likely to be!).

Broken Realms of Hell (pt 2)

Progress on my Realms of Hell board. On the two "special" broken Realms boards paint has been applied. The base ground is the same as the previous post.
The cogs and wheels have been given a base gold paint. The plan is to pick out a few (but not many) details in silver and then get some oxidation and grime put down.
The river/bridge section is to be a river of blood. So far given a base coat of a refish brown then a second layer of red. The same has been done round the outsides of the cogs as well.

Starting to look up even at this rough stage. Need to tidy up the over slop and figure out how to progress the river look!

More New Recruits

A couple of new recruits to the Sci-Fi drawer. Well, almost new!

First up on the left is an Urban War VASA Sergeant. I already have a painted version of her in military grey for my VASA force, but I love the dynamic sculpt so now I've another painted version. Given the grey of the previous incarnation I fancied something a bit more "bubblegum", hence the pink and white theme.

On the right is a dominating Warzone Nepherite of Illian.  The gender of this figure has always confused me as it is very masculine apart from the very busty chest armour. That and the fact it is just a random miniature I picked up has meant that it has been in the lead pile for a VERY long time, so very happy indeed to have this one painted.

Broken Realms of Hell (pt 1)

There's a new skirmish game in town called "Reign in Hell" where warbands (or Cabals) of demons battle each other. It looks great fun with some interesting mechanics - never mind the thought of all the cool models that can be put on the table!

Last year  an incomplete set of Games Workshop's "Broken Realms" battle boards dropped into my lap. The basic boards looked nice, but the other two special boards are very stylised so I hadn't done anything with them - until now. They will make great boards for this new game.

They've been attacked by a series of spray cans. Halfords Grey primer to base and Halford Camo brown, Humbrol brown and a cheap black primer to darken around the ground cracks. All very quick and easy. Just the GW skulls to deal with in the future.

More Sci-Fi Recruits

5 new figures for the Sci-Fi pool. The first 3 are definitely painted up with Stargrave in mind, but obviously can going into any game. A not Rocket (of Guardians of The Galaxy fame) by Bombshell Miniatures, a lass in paramedic colours from some EM4 plastic sprues I had, an OOP Captain Jack Harkness from Crooked Dice and finally 2 more Urban War Militia.

With my painting time so restricted at the moment I'm trying to keep things simple to get figures painted. I'm really struggling with faces again (always been a difficult area for me) and I'll need to go back to some reference material to try and improve them. As ever they'll look fine on the table though (at least to me).

Preping Another Project

Overlapping projects - we all do it. So here I am preparing for the start of another warband. These are Gorkamorka orcs (and an old Goff) after scrub number 1 from the meths bath.

By 40k Orks of almost any later era they are small, but these are actually perfect to accompany my box of RTB02 Ork Raiders that were fantastically gifted to me by my brother a few years ago. They might actually get a paint!

Future City Foundations

With the Judge Dredd starter figures painted I'm needing a Mega City table to play them on.

I managed to pick up a box of TT Combat prototype buildings from an eBay job lot for a great price, so that's where we'll start!

It's going to be a bit of a long haul so I've spray primed all the buildings grey (with a dash of white) so they can be played and I'll address each part desperately as I go along.

More as I progress...

Urban War militia

A couple of figures to add to my Sci-Fi gangers. These are from the Urban War range. Clothing style wise very generic and realistic. So flexible that they can fit into any sci-fi or near future game I think. Nice and simple to paint as well. Some of my favourites!

(Shameless plug) available in store HERE

Judge Dredd Starter Gang

June last year I showcased my Judges - and only 9 months later I've completed the remaining 8 figures. Gosh it's been a tough year but that's awful!! Anyway, I'd always planned to have these done before the clubs met back, so I suppose deadline met!

To be honest not having a set colour plan for the figures and each one being separate really caused me some bother. In the end I found tackling them one at a time was my best strategy, but as the last year has seen me literally go weeks without picking up a paintbrush progress has also been painfully slow. The end results are not as bright as the comic (or box set) imagery but my grimier finish keeps more of a grim Cyberpunk\Bladerunner feel to them which is more where I want my future city to lie. As ever, once on the table with scenery they'll be good.

15mm Resin Fantasy Buildings

I've managed to finish painting my small collection of 15mm Fantasy buildings, so thought I'd put up a few set up pictures!
