Stripping for the League
My local shop FLGS, Worlds At War, is starting a Warmachine Journeyman League this week. This is a basic casual league format to bring in new players and for folk to start new factions. Everyone starts off playing a starter battlebox and then builds on it (with certain restrictions) as the weeks go by. I hardly played Warmachine over the last couple of years, so I'm tentatively entering with a Cygnar force to get my remaining figures painted and play a few games over the next few weeks.
I already have a battlebox painted for Cygnar, but I've a couple of Warjacks from the set picked up from ebay to paint as well. As you can see they need a bit of a repaint.
I've got them bathing in Dettol to remove the paint while I'm at Claymore tomorrow.

Old School 40k Razorback - Finished
Finished the Old MKI Ultra Marine Razorback. As my Ultra's are all smooth clean blue I resisted the urge to weather the armour. I've also kept the surface free from any visual clutter, which again fits in with the Super Blue "theme".
There obviosuly short comings with the model (aside from my painting!). Being a cheap second hand buy there is always some compromise between condition and cost. Here I only had one side hatch for the gunner, so left it off and one of the exhausts is missing. The side rails were in poor condition so again were pulled off and a common problem with these old rhino kits always seems to be how well the sides are attached.
All these I knew before parting with my cash, so I'm obviously not too bothered. Quite happy with the end result.
As a footnote, the armour is sprayed with Army Painters Ultramarine Blue. The GW old paint for Ultramarines (Mordian Blue?) is a good bit darker. If anyone has a comparison with the new range equivalent, Macragge Blue, it would be very useful.

Old School 40k Razorback - WIP
As a bit of a change for the holidays I thought I'd paint the 40k Razorback I'd picked up at the Glasgow Modelfest back in October for Arabiansquire. Unfortunately I didn't take a "before" picture - DOH!
I've re-sprayed the entire model in Army Painter Ultramarine blue then dry brushed in a lighter blue, which will have to remain nameless as it doesn't have a label (just to say it's a 90's Citadel paint). Everything is very blue!

Next I've painted the metal parts black and dry brushed bolt-gun metal.
More to follow...

Citadel Fiend Factory Ogre
All the back to 1982-ish for the Citadel Fiend Factory series (FF-53)
This old mini has been sitting around for ages since he was bought in a job lot years ago. The sculpt has always struck me as very basic, even for the period, and combined with the base coat paint and and bulging eyes has never seen the tabletop. There is little definition on the arms and legs, and there are swirls all over them which I can only assume is mean to be hair. I tried to paint in some muscle definition before catching the arm/leg hairs. The end result is a bit messy, but is at least a broken surface visually. Looking at it again here I must say the eye's may need touched up - not aggressive enough!
With it finally finished I can only conclude that its a fine subject to resurrect my Painting SOS theme with. Hopefully the end result is better than what I started with...
It also herards a start to a new subject tag - Old School minis. I'll be endevouring to paint up an old mini every month as a bit of a fun project.

Painting SOS - Gnome Bard
I'm starting a feature that I've blatantly stolen from "Dr Faust's Painting Clinic". The feature in question no longer actually exists (which probably goes to show how old some of my bookmarks are!) but I should really credit ideas from source.
With his long Fu-Manchu style moustache I've tried to give him and oriental feel. His harmonica is a bit of a cop-out in some ways, and could quite easily been altered to a different instument, but there is something appealing about a Gnome with his magic mouth organ. I'm sure there's a children's programme there somewhere.
We've all had miniatures that need a repaint. Most are second hand (mostly from eBay) and if we're brave/desperate some are from our own younger hands. So basically this is a thinly disguised repaint feature.
First up we have an old Game Workshop Gnome Mage. His staff is broken and he's been bathing in custard. This was an eBay buy for a Gnome Bard character I was to play in a 4th Ed D&D game. The broken staff was of no concern as it was to become his required musical instrument - a mouth organ!
