Time for a Break

After painting two 15mm warbands (Dwarves posted up soon) I've been feeling the painting strain of squinting away at the detail and realised that I need a complete change of pace and subject to keep me from the dreaded Painting Mojo loss.

So I've pulled out one of the Airfix Starter kits I'd picked up on the cheap around New Year to construct. The kit in question is a mk1 Hawker Hurricane. Being a starter set it includes a basic paint set for the kit, so no faffing around experimenting with pigments this time round!

Quick Victoria

Time in to front of the mighty blog-a-thon is still running at a premium so I'm just going to fire up some pictures of a test game of "In Her Majesty's Name" I played with MacSver last week with out a proper write up. I apologise.

We were testing out our Companies for an upcoming campaign. Myself with my "Victoria's Palace" Company and MacSver with his Lord Curr Company. It was the "Catch a Pigeon" scenario from the main rulebook, except with a wayward automaton instead of a feathered messenger. the Pea Soup Fog rules (variable sight distance) were also in play.

Lord Curr and His Incorrigibles get ready for the search.

I Ain't Been Shot Mum?

As you may have noticed I tend to lean towards rulesets that are not tied into their own specific figure range. I feel it helps get the most out of the figures I have already bought. It does mean that I have a small library of rulesets that haven't been played. I suspect I 'm not the only one!

With enjoying "Hell Hath No Fury" it has been in my mind that I 'd like to add some non-tank elements to the game at some point. Nuts! has been bought and is good, but I'll have to fudge some rules as its doesn't cater for the "Flames Of War" figures I have from the Open Fire! boxset I have.

There seem to be quite a few other folk scouting about for rules to use their FoW figures with. Is there a gaming trend wave of people falling out of love with that game?? I don't know, but on a forum thread I saw mention\recommendation of TwoFatLardies "I Ain't Been Shot Mum". It seems to have elements similar to a couple of games I enjoy at the moment. Non-linear turn sequences, card activation, basic fog of war, etc.

It may very well to heading up the latest entry for the Hobby Shed Library...

15mm Orc Warband

It's been a bit quiet here over the last couple of weeks. Nothing exciting or serious though, just all the usual reasons blogs round the Interweb fall silent for a period ("life" in one word) so I won't bore you any further with the blah, blah. The time hasn't been barren of hobby stuff though, so a few things to post.

Patiently waiting for their time in the limelight have been this completed warband of 15mm Orcs from 15mm.co.uk. A slight mixed bunch I think. The "Orc horde" warriors are a bit more finely sculpted but slight. Almost a bit more goblin in fact, but their faces have great pointy features. The larger orc's a bit more blocky (if not crude) in sculpting style but once the base paint and highlight was on what seemed blocky turned into 15mm bulk and muscle - just the job for these guys. Together the two styles manage to work together.

I'm not really a big fan of the bright green skin for Orcs and Gobins in 28mm, but at this scale it really brings the warband to life. Still enjoying finding things out at this scale!

MacSver will be glad to here that the dwarves are currently on the painting table for the next warband.
