VSF Card Buildings

Earlier in the year I had realised that I was very unhappy with my terrain options for "In Her Majesty's Name" games. They all seemed to be in the woods with maybe a single house or ruin. So I decided to make some Victorian Sci-Fi style buildings (I'm not a fan of the "Steampunk" label!).

I've been working on these for a while now (the final building featuring in a couple of  WIP Wednesday posts).

First up is Dave Graffam's Inventors House. This is actually listed as a fantasy building, but with the added on levels at the top (and especially if you add the free observatory model which I can't seem to construct!) it easily can be thought of as the old English House of an eccentric inventor. It's a great piece and fun to build.

Next build is Graffam's Steampunk Building #1. It is a basic building shape, but I love the red brick and brass support colours together as well as the window styling. I originally was a bit unsure about the cogs and workings round the side, but once built they do indeed add to the theme.

The final building is a kitbash of the above Steampunk Building. I used mounting board to strengthen the walls. Only the lower half of the windows were cut out, as the floor level is the same as the outside to the windows sit quite high, but OK to shoot from. The door is also open for entry. I carefully cut through only the outer and mid layers for one edge to lave the inside texture to act as a hinge.

Inside, the bare brick texture is just from the outer walls template and printed using the printers "mirror print" option. Industrial gubbins are from the "Ravenfell Steam Items" set by Fat Dragon Games.

I've a couple of other models to play around with to add to the buildings, but I'm now getting to the stage where I can set up a table without any tree fillers if I fancy.

    1. Thanks, Phil. Dave Graffam really did a good job with the textures for these kits.

  3. Oooh! They do look great! Also like the mat...is that the Deepcut one? A cobblestone mat is high on my 'to-buy' list!
