Setup:

Ardaric's Barbarians were defeding a trading post. There is a heavy crossbow with a 2xLong range on the roof of the tower which needs to be manned to fire.

 Valgen has his warband and a wagon load of Powder Kegs. Six of the Kegs are to be placed at the base of the tower and lit to destroy the outpost.

 The Barbarians hold their place whilst Ooko summons up Fire Elementals to act as a from line at the bridge edge. The archers push up base-to-base with the Elemetals to allow them to fire down the bridge as well.

 Having felt that splitting his warband last battle led to his downfall, Valgen keeps his charges grouped together.
 The Dwarves move en-mass onto the bridge. Poor Cerri doesn't have the range to really threaten the foe on the other side, and the other ranged Dwarves are out of this battle after injuries picked up in Battle #15.

The first wave hit heavy fire as they come in range of the fireball breathing elementals, archers and heavy crossbow. 3 dwarves are dispatched and one is knocked down.

 The Second wave surges forward, knocking back one Elemental, and killing another. The Cart and Cavalry move round to the other bridge to get on the right side of the river whilst the enemy concentrate on the main force.

 But the Ardaric's forces regroup. The archers first fire into the packed Dwarven lines and pull back to the outpost while the Elementals close ranks to block the route. Another 2 Dwarves die and with another knocked to the ground.
Still the Dwarves throw themselves at their enemy, all or nothing. But the Gods have deserted them and they fail to worry the Elemental wall. They pay with their lives and the force is routed. Mutterings of a change of Warband leader are heard from the survivors.

Result: Barbarian Win.

Setup:
The is the same scenario as Battle #8. Ardaric's Barbarians are again set out round the camp fire with sentries.
The Dwarves started to come on, with the crossbow men moving down the centre between the rocky outcrops and the main force heading to the south.

Remos, on his horse, moved forward enough to see the approaching dwarves over the central fence and managed to raise the alarm. The Barbarians then grouped back together and started to move towards the southern woods for cover, a similar tactic to battle 8. Boindel on his bear races round to try and hinder the Barbarians, but after a brief skirmish pulls back as the main force approach the corner and the dwarf ranged force.
But the barbarian force doubles back and engages the crossbowmen, but despite being outnumbered they hold firm, knocking back or be ing knocked back from combat actions. Valgen moves up to support the start a counter attack, but an early turnover leaves him exposed, and the barbarians pounce, taking him out of the battle. Hagar fails the resulting morale test, but can't get further than short from an enemy and is destroyed, whilst Sly goes down under some ranged fireballs from the elementals. Broken, the Dwarves retreated.

The result: A Barbarian Win

Koralon Test Paint

Time to start up my next major painting project - my Urban War Koralon.



I've been trying to decide on what colour scheme to use on these guys for ages, as there is so much room for choice, as the obvious thing seems to be to have 2 contrasting colours between the body and head\weapons. Also despite my original intention that the Koralon were meant to be a quick addition for a 300pt force I seem to have "accidentally" ended up with a few more, so again I want a good fast paint job that will get them on table.

As ever to keep myself right more than anything else, here is what I ended up do:
  • Base prime White
  • Wash entire model in Vallejo Sepia Ink
  • Paint head and weapons Black
  • Dry brush entire model White
  • Wet highlight head and weapons
  • Green Ink Wash black areas
  • GW Baal Red Wash on exposed muscle
  • Dry brush teeth Gun Blot Metal
This will be the base for the core troops (Brood, as above). nice and quick.

And why metal teeth?

Setup:

Both warbands set up with a rough outcrop in the centre of the table. Here the critters lived. Figures would approach the outcrop edge and automatically poke into the outcrop , hoping to flush out a critter from the other side to the rock. The Critter could then be caught and returned to a home base area.



After the mauling in the previois encounter the Barbarians were keen to minimise contact with the Dwarves and rushed forward. An early critter was flushed out...

And returned to the the home base

But despite surging forward they couldn't budge enough of the critters
before the Dwarven force arrived en-mass.
Plan B came into effect and Elementals were pushed up the flanks to protect the main force and as many critters were flushed out as possible to hopefully distract the dwarves.


The Dwarves gleefully closed in on the objective critters

whilst also taking some pent up frustrations on the blocking elementals.
The Dwarves soon were heading back with their catches
As were the barbarians
but not as well as their foe.



And a final flurry of fire extinguishing and critter catching ended a satisfactory day for the dwarves.

Result: Win for Valgen's Dwarves.

Urban War - Viridians Finished


Finished my final Urban War Viridian Model: a Sabre Clau. It's been waiting patiently to in a 75% completed mode for a few weeks as I concentrated on the Saurian riders. The other figure is the pilot. I bought her with a few other unpainted figures and while they had a repaint she was painted nicely and in nearly the same colour scheme so was left alone. She included here for completions sake.

More notably, it makes the completion of my Urban War Viridian Force.



In the end the Force list reads:

Urban War - Viridian Saurian Riders


Finally finished my Saurian Riders. A bit late for my Painting Oaths pledge, but life at the moment isn't really leading to hobby time (as the silence on the blog of the last few weeks would seem to back up).


There was a deceptively large amount of painting on these, so they took a bit longer than expected, Especially as I was adjusting the lizards skin after each application as I only had a rough idea of where I was going with it.

The models are also very top heavy. They all sit on one hind leg. The HGR one above needed to be propped up on the barrel as even when moved into place the whole thing sagged down towards the ground over the course of a couple of days. This also means that they can topple over forwards quite easily. I need to find a method of weighting down the underside of the bases. If nothing else I suppose Milliput may have to do!

Happy with the results. The marines and webbing all follow the usual colour scheme I've been applying throughout the army, so no bother there. With so much green and brown on their back I knew I didn't want the lizards to follow a green colour scheme, and I'm happy with the way the grey (with slight undertones of green) has turned out, making themselves and their riders stand out.
