The release of "Reign in Iron" by Snarling Badger games (solo Demons vs Robots gaming) had me reaching into the neglected miniatures drawer to pull out my old Warmachine Cryx Warjacks - ideal for battles against hordes from Hell I thought. Unfortunately the makeup of the game is basically melee Demons against shooty Robots, and the Cryx 'jacks (or at least the ones I have) were mostly melee focused. So off to Ebay for some bargains. As I was looking for shooty Warmachine types with no regard to faction I managed to pick up 5 models for under £30.
Painting up was a pleasure, as I had a low model count, a set colour scheme and no real fiddley bits to worry about.. The rust technique was done before fancy rust effect paints and although I linked to the method I was using at the time in this blog the post I linked to (on the old Dakka-dakka forum) has long since disappeared (I'm not searching though the internet archive!), so I had to just try my best. Rusty brown base, dabbed orange, dabbed yellow, dabbed rusty brown again in this case.
I've even managed to (pretty much) replicate the thematic bases I did at the time as well. Happy the way they've come out - just got to figure out how to play the game now....!
