SoBH Campaign 4 - Humans vs Wood Elves

This post is a base to catalogue my fantasy "Songs Of Blades and Heroes" campaign with my gaming buddy MacSver. I have moved the campaign page to this post to make room at the top for the next campaign (so for those avid readers this isn't anything new, just a bit of re-organising)

The basic warband makeup is Humans vs Wood Elves : Initial Warband CompositionsThe campaign winner is the first warband to 10 Campaign points.

SoBH Campaign 4 - Battle 11

The villagers gathered round the market cross to hear the news. There was a warband coming to take them from their settlement. Would no body step in to save them?

SoBH Campaign 4 - Battle 10

The two warbands come across a travelling caravan that has been ambushed by a band of Ogres. The guards are valiantly defending their rich merchant boss, but it's only a matter of time before they succumb to the bludgeoning force of their attackers. Can one of the warbands rescue the merchant?

SoBH Campaign 4 - Battle 9

Scenario - Heist

The scenario was simple. The First Law had hired a thief to steal something special. The Everglade Guardians were on her trail to get the loot back, so she'd gone to ground in one of six locations on the table. The Elves were to search the locations (a 12 on 2d6 found her, with extra bonus' the more locations searched), whilst avoiding the attentions of The First Law.

SoBH Campaign 4 - Battle 8

Scenario: Bar Brawl
The Inn was split into 3 areas; main bar, Office\cellar area and the main courtyard\beer garden. Both sides started with around 120pts worth of figures in random areas at the start of the scenario, with a figure coming into a random section at the start of each players respective turn. As this was a bar brawl there were no weapons. All combat stats remained the same (with the exception of ranged weapons), and there were to be no fatalities. All deaths rolled on the post game injury table would be re-rolled with 50\50 chance of moderate ot serious injury.

SoBH Campaign 4 - Battle 7

Scenario: Break The Blockade

The scenario had the elves holed up in a watchtower, awaiting supplies. The First Law were tasked to capturing the tower and also stopping a supply wagon (arriving at a random time in the first 7 turns) from delivering their cargo.

SoBH Campaign 4 - Battle 6

Scenario: The Haunted Wreck

The scenario is a treasure hunt with a twist. There is a wrecked ship in the middle of a wide river with a treasure chest on it. The first warband to carry the treaure off the far end of the table wins (unless there is a rout). The Twist? Well the wreck is haunted by it's previous (now undead) crew and they don't want to give up their treasure. The size of the crew is randomly generated when the first non-crew member steps on board.

So the table is set as thus with the ship wreck in the centre of the table and the warbands coming in up stream.

SoBH Campaign 4 - Battle 5

Weather:Calm
Terrain: Mountain
Scenario: Man Hunt

The battleground was set as above. At the end of the first turn Scourge appeared on the high Mountain tabletop on the right and would move randomly until within 2 x Long of any foe. Also Nicomo Cosca was identified as the adventurers murderer from the end of battle 4, with an extra XP reward for his death.

SoBH Campaign 4 - Battle 4

Weather:Calm, nighttime.
Terrain: Border Town
Scenario: Snatch

The scenario revolves rescuing a blacksmiths daughter, accused of witchcraft, from imprisonment in the centre of a town. One character per warband has a key to unlock the prison door. There is a local militia guarding the prison, all Quality 3+ Combat 3, so just as strong as most the campaign characters. Also it is a night raid, so player characters can't run (only one move action) and shooting ranges are down to short. Militia are run by game mechanics, roll on 2 activation dice, can run but can't power attack.

SoBH Campaign 4 - Battle 3

Weather: Calm
Terrain: Border Town
Scenario: Raven Barracks

The Scenario is quite simple. The barracks have been abandoned and in the centre of the town there are still some crates available for "retrieval". A small force of  looters is also sneaking around somewhere, with a player deployed random roll.

SoBH Campaign 4 - Battle 2

Weather: Snow
Scenario: Avalanche
Defender: Everglade Forest Guardians
The scenario is a basic battle match up, with the threat of a loud noise triggering an avalanche which will move across the table, destroying everything in its path.

The table was set out as above, with frozen lakes in the centre and snowdrifts dotted about. Because of the snow the going was heavy, so every figure had it's movement decreased to short.

SoBH Campaign 4 - Battle 1

Weather: Heat Wave
Scenario: The Tainted Copse
Defender: Humans

The table was set up as above. The light areas are pathways and everything else counts as forest. The Tree areas are defined copses which may randomly turn, drift or completely swap with one another after the second players turn end. Each warband aims to get half their force out of the deployment zone of the opposing force to win the scenario.

SoBH Campaign 4 Initial Warbands

SoBH Campaign 4 is nigh on upon us so best introduce the Warbands.

This time I'm theming my Warband around Woodland Defenders. The Main force bulk are Wood Elves with the fringe colour being provided by as large a variety of forest denizens as I can realistically manage (a few in the figure pool will never see the campaign table I'm sure).

So I introduce to you the starting lineup of "Galan's Woodland Defenders":

From Left to Right:
  • Galan (Wood Elf Leader) 100pts Q2+,C3 Special Rules: Forester,Leader,Shooter: Long
  • Folmon (Wood Elf Warrior) 36pts Q3+; C3 Special Rules: Forester
  • Ailuin (Wood Elf Warrior) 36pts Q3+; C3 Special Rules: Forester
  • Anlyth (Wood Elf Warrior) 36pts Q3+; C3 Special Rules: Forester
  • Mallosson (Wood Elf Warrior) 36pts Q3+; C3 Special Rules: Forester
  • Thonor (Dryad) 50pts Q3+, C2 Special Rules Forester, Distract
  • Tatharon (Wood Elf Archer) 50pts Q3+, C3 Special Rules Forester,Shooter: Long

MacSver has taken a different method of theming his warband. Not only has he moved away from Dwarves to humans, but he is forming a warband based on various characters from the 'First Law' books by Joe Abercrombie. I've included MacSver's colourful background descriptions as well for his "First Law Crew":

From left to right again:
  • Bayaz, (Warband Leader) First of the Magi, 113pts Q2+, C3 Special Rules: Leader, Magic User
A wizard from an older time, Bayaz is determined to defeat his brother magi and end his evil machinations. Using Ninefinger's ability to talk to spirits and Ferro's demon ancestry, he hopes to collect the Seed, a tool to end the war.
  • Logen Ninefingers (Warrior) 36pts Q3+ C3 Special Rules: Fearless
Infamous 'barbarian' warrior of the North named for his lack of finger. After mistakenly thinking his friends have died, he joined Bayaz on a journey to defeat his sworn enemy, Bethod. He has the ability to talk to spirits, but they are often short on words.
  • Ferro Maljinn (Elite Archer) 56pts Q3+, C3 Special Rules: Shooter (Long), Unerring Aim, Stealth
An ex-slave from the south (Gurkhul) who puts her thirst for revenge over everything. Descended from demon's blood, she has unnatural aim with a bow.
  • Jezal dan Luthar (Swordsman) 36pts Q3+, C3 Special Rules: Free Disengage
A self-centered nobleman and expert Union swordsman nominated to fight in a tournament to represent his country.
  • The Dogman (Scout Archer) 36pts Q3+, C3 Special Rules: Shooter (Long), Scout
A world-weary and experienced northern scout, once belonging to Logen Ninefingers group.
  • Black Dow (Warrior in Reserve) 26pts Q3+ C3 Special Rules: Dogged
One of the North's 'Named Men', ruthless and determined reputation.
  • Rudd Threetrees (Warrior) 40 Pts Q3+ C4
One of the North's 'Named Men', a renowned strong-man and warrior.
