Graffam Sci-Fi #3
Third of my Graffam Sci Builds is now done. This was a complicated one. a large footprint and flat roof, with cover.
The roof secions come off to reveal the interior, complete with proper staircase. The kit includes some loose blocks to put on the stairs, widening them enough perch a figure on. A bit of genius in my opinion.
Anyone who has made any cardstock buildings will be familiar, I'm sure, with how tricky the smaller or thinner parts can be. The walls and ceilings here are a fiddle, with tabs coming in all directions for structure strength, but making their construct a bit of another octopus fingers exercise. Put all the slight imperfections together can leave a few gaps or squint edges (especially to the critical builders eye). Also I found that my print out had wall widths of around 6 or 7 mm, so my standard 5mm reinforcement doesn't happily glue to both surfaces.
Here is the final structure with my previous 2 Graffam structures. I sure that once on the table proper I won't be so critical. The graphic textures are all still really good. Will I build another? Probably yes, although I might use the wall\ceilings as templates for foam board and attach the srfaces to that, instead of what I did here and glue the foamboard to the card construct.

You're clearly becoming the King of Cardboard (in a very good way I stress), as this is stunning stuff. I bought into Worldworks a few years ago and frankly had a torrid time with them. You;re certainly encouraging me to give card another go :-)
ReplyDeleteHa, ha thanks, Blax'. I've had a go with World Works in the past as well. They are probably more flexible, but the ease of use (generally) really helps get the table full with Good effect.
DeleteGreat job A.k.! Looking very good dude.
ReplyDeleteTry Stoelzel's Structures, they are designed with foamboard in mind.
He's even got his own forum for discussing builds and what gamers want him to do next.
Cheers, Bob.I have Stoelzel's Victorian set already. I have it in my sights for some more IHMN games.
DeleteI've used DG products before and love them; these look great BTW!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Monty.
DeleteWell done. I found that DG sci-fi are a lot more complex than fantasy one.
ReplyDeleteThat's my finding so far, although I've a few involved fantasy ones still to make up!
