Barbarians & Elementals

Been busy painting to get my starting "Song of Blades..." warband ready for the first session (with a couple of reserves) of the new campaign.

The main force, a Leader (from Alternative Armies) and Heroquest Hero and 2 Grenadier Archers. I also touched up the flesh painting  on the Alternative Armies axeman (with his dubious pose!)

Also ready to go for Session 1 is my mysterious 80's GW Elementalist, Ooko, with a Water (80's GW) and a Fire (Reaper) elemental.

And finally the picture of the starting line-up for the campaign (additional Barbarian at the back is Alternative Armies).

Song Of Blades and Battlegrounds

tI was meant to be a session at the local gaming club, Livingston Battleground, to sort out a couple of new scenarios, but in the end my SoBH campaign buddy, MacSver, and I ended up in a multiplayer battle. Fortunately we'd brought extra models along (almost in anticipation) so by the end of the morning we had 2 Dwarven warbands, Lizardmen, Humans and late arriving Orks. Much enjoyment and hilarity was had. There isn't much fantasy gaming done at the club, so hopefully this ease to play and small model count and the fun will have it adopted by more members.

What can only be called a grudge match breaks out
the Dwarves.
Human's knock down the Big Lizard
The Lizardmen rejoicing was cut short as Orks
burst from the trees on the other side of the road.
One of the Dwarf leaders, alone, battles it out
against overwhelming odds.
Having dispatched his Kindred Foe, the mounted leader
hurtles up the table to continue battle (killing the
Lizard leader!)

SoBH Campaign 3 Initial Warbands

And so onto our next campaign. Dwarf man MacSver continues to expand his collection, and uses his experience with the Warband Calculator to bring in some young beardlings. I've decided that now is the time to assemble the barbarian warband that I've fancied doing for years (and also using it as an excuse to paint some Elementals)

A Wash and Dry(brush)

It's amazing what you can get done when a few projects all stall at a similar point. In my case this weekend I had a flurry of activity doing dark washes and light (or brown) drybrushing.

It all started with the expansion pack of my Pendraken 10mm dungeon, which had been sitting around base coated grey for months. So a wash and dry brush later:

and when added to the main box I have:

Another part finished project was a pack of Games Workshop craters. Dry brushed light in the scorched centre and brown on the outside to match the main table surface.

And finally, following my own advice (I know, I'm as surprised as anyone) the ground round my rubble creations along with lightening the debris.

My Sci-fi tunnel project also saw some similar attention, but I'm saving that for a bit later after some more work has been done to it.
