SoBH: Raid for the Blood Stones

All was quiet (for once) in the Barbarian village. Chieftain Ardaric gazed up to the bejewelled skull on top of the sacred mound. Little did he realise that others had their gaze upon the the ruby encrusted eyes of the giants skull as well!

Barbarian Warlord Hut

 Spare time is still a rare thing, but I've managed to add to my Barbarian scenery with this lovely solid resin Chieftain's hut from Templar Wargames. An obvious skull adorned front entrance and a more sneaky side windows\exit. Nice and easy to paint, with wood detailing for quick dry brushing.

As a note, the two guards in the picture are an Old Heroquest Barbarian and an out of focus Barbarian from Four A Miniatures.

Part 2 has been long time coming. Pretty much a good indicator on how little hobby time I've had over the past couple of months. Finally finished my other "rest project" however - an Airfix Starter Supermarine Spitfire mk1.

I've still been struggling to get on with painting for the last whole, so I've decided to do something else for a bit. I'd found some printouts that had been put to the side of David Graffam's Wizard's House and Hovel designs and put to work getting them constructed. So far so simple.

Mushroom Canopies

More of a heads up than a proper post. In the UK discount store B&M has large "rustic mushrooms" in stock in their seasonal section for a meagre £3.99. Made of resin and prepainted, all they really need is a bit attention to the base, which looks a bit too hard. The example above is straight out of the shop. Ideal for those of us who want to adventure in a fantasy Forrest.

Dead Man's Hand : Bloodbath @

We had meant to be playing the next Act in our Dead Man's Hand Campaign last Monday, but it was postponed due to dreaded Lurgy. MacSver had a casual game instead, playing one of the "All in!" scenarios. This was basically a grand battle with the added complication that some of the innocent townsfolk had barricaded themselves in the buildings. This meant that at test had to be made to enter a building, and a figure could even be shot at by the occupant !

2017 Barbarians Finished - part 1

A couple of months late but I've managed to finish my 2017 28mm Fantasy project - add characters and appropriate scenery to my Barbarian Warband.

I had already added a Spearman and Dwarven couple last year, but I had another 4 figures sitting in the sidelines. Part of the delay was that the 3 Heresy miniatures required some construction, which I don't find overly enjoyable. But they all look the business now completed (or at least comparable in painting quality to my existing Barbarians.

From left to right, a Heresy miniatures Necromancer, a warrior from 4A Miniatures, a Barbarian halfling and Half Ogre (both again from Heresy).

The Necromancer comes with a skull or raven option for the left hand. The raven option helps him fit into a more natural druidic feel. The plaid on the warrior isn't the best, but I dulled it down enough to be passable on the table. The halfling I've had to make a berserker in my Song of Blades and Heroes games, as a halfling berserker is too funny a chance to pass up, no matter the lack of game logic! And the dynamic Boris figure is just great.

Dead Man's Hand Campaign Starts

Monday at the Falkirk District Wargames Club saw four of us start a Dead Man's Hand Campaign using the official "Legend of..." expansion. 

We have my Outlaw gang, Lawmen, Seventh Cavalry and Bandits. 

First game up for me was against MacSver's Lawmen playing the "For a Few Models More" act. 

Pretty familiar ground we thought, but the tweaks for "Legend..." brought a good bit of confusion to the gang compositions, leading us to forget special rules and field incorrect line-up, to my (unintentional)  ultimate advantage I must say. I have offered to replay, but MacSver has set the standard for friendly casual play to say the we'll keep the end results and put them down to learning. 

Everything will hopefully be smoother for round 2 in a few weeks time. In the meantime I really need to get some more figures painted up! 

ASoBH: Hunting Chaos

With last year's lack of posts a change I'd tack is required. So instead of battle reports of yesteryear I'll be trying to at least get some photos up!

Workbench Update

I seem to be struck with combination of January Lethargy and Hobby Over-planning - a frustrating combination! So as an attempt to spur me on I've had to resort to public scrutiny!

It's a bit of a case of past, present and future.

PAST: Trying to finish off last year's 28mm Fantasy Barbarian project. I've 4 figures to finish. 3 from Heresy and one from 4A Miniatures. and a couple of papercraft huts.

PRESENT: I'm about to embark on a Dead Man's Hand Campaign at the start of February. Campaigns in theory need 31 rep gangs to win, so I need a few reinforcements. These are the first 3.

FUTURE: (or at least Sci-fi) Some 15mm Bluemoon Nevis - for variety!

Hardly an impossible mountain. I am getting these out of the way before embarking on larger 2018 projects - still to be finalised!
